Fracture of a Metal-Backed Ceramic Liner After Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Case Report
نویسندگان
چکیده
Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a common procedure that has become increasingly prevalent in younger patient population. With improvements prostheses and materials, the survivorship of implants increased. Historically, excellent wear characteristics ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) made them an appealing choice compared to other bearing options. Yet, potential benefits longevity related have been combated by their unique causes failure such as implant fracture squeaking. Metal-backed ceramic liners were developed minimize impingement-related chipping at periphery may propagate catastrophic fracture. We report case involving metal-backed liner presented with months pain crepitus no overt signs on imaging.

Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty After an Iatrogenic Subtrochanteric Fracture due to Hardware Removal: A Case Report
Introduction: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) after proximal femoral fixation is a challenging procedure due to possible hardware-related complications. Case presentation: A 78-year-old female with hip osteoarthritis had a proximal femoral osteotomy fixed using a blade plate in the same femur 41 years ago. A two-step approach was planned. After a challenging...
متن کاملFracture of Ceramic Liner and Head in a Total Hip Arthroplasty with a Sandwich Type Cup
Due to its advantages, ceramic-on-ceramic bearings have been widely used in young patients for almost 30 years. Long-term survivorship, low wear, and low biological reactivity to particles are some of its characteristics. Even though this material has had a lot of improvements, the risk of fracture is one of the concerns. There have been reports of fracture of ceramic in the acetabular liner an...
متن کاملA fractured and immovable ceramic liner in a screw-fixed acetabular shell during total hip arthroplasty: a case report.
We report a complication during total hip arthroplasty using an uncemented press-fit acetabular shell and ceramic liner for a woman with osteoarthritis. Fracture of the ceramic liner occurred during its insertion owing to non-concentric reduction. The main body of the ceramic liner became wedged in the acetabular shell and was resistant to removal. The shell itself was immovable owing to the pr...
متن کاملCeramic Head Fracture in Ceramic-on-Polyethylene Total Hip Arthroplasty
Revision rates of total hip arthroplasty have decreased after introducing total hip arthroplasty (THA) using ceramic component, since ceramic components could reduce components wear and osteolysis. The fracture of a ceramic component is a rare but potentially serious event. Thus, ceramic on polyethylene articulation is gradually spotlighted to reduce ceramic component fracture. There are a few ...
متن کاملCatastrophic wear in a metal-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty.
A 51-year-old woman came to our clinic 6 months after a right total hip arthroplasty. She had noticed a slowly growing mass in the proximal thigh and referred progressive pain in the right groin. Plain radiography revealed premature acetabular cup aseptic loosening, and in the computed tomography study, a 14-cm-diameter mass was observed. Revision surgery was performed, showing a metal-on-ceram...
